1 Day Arusha National Park
The 1 Day Arusha National Park Safari is a perfect day-trip escape for travelers short on time but eager to experience the diverse landscapes and wildlife of Tanzania. Located just 45 minutes from Arusha City, Arusha National Park offers an extraordinary variety of ecosystems—from lush montane forests and open savannahs to alpine meadows and the sparkling Momella Lakes.
Unlike other parks known primarily for big game, Arusha National Park offers a rare mix of wildlife, birdlife, scenery, and adventure in a compact area. It's also one of the few parks in Tanzania where you can combine a game drive with a guided walking safari or even a canoe trip (optional).
Expect to see giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, buffalos, blue monkeys, and flamingos, and if you're lucky, catch a glimpse of the elusive leopards or black-and-white colobus monkeys—which are found here in high numbers.
This day safari is ideal for travelers arriving or departing through Arusha or Kilimanjaro, families with kids, or those looking for a peaceful park with Mount Meru as a dramatic backdrop.

📅 Itinerary: 1 Day Safari to Arusha National Park
🚐 Pick-Up – Start of the Day
Your experienced driver-guide will collect you at 8:00 AM from your hotel in Arusha or from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). After a short briefing, begin the 30–45 minute drive to Arusha National Park.
Along the way, take in the views of Mount Meru and bustling local villages.
🌲 Morning Game Drive – Into the Forest and Plains
Enter the park through the Ngongongare Gate, and start with a scenic game drive through lush rainforest terrain, home to troops of blue monkeys, baboons, and the iconic colobus monkeys.
Continue onto the open grasslands of the Serengeti Ndogo ("Little Serengeti"), a prime area for spotting zebras, warthogs, giraffes, and bushbucks. Keep your eyes peeled for elusive leopards or hyenas in the shaded undergrowth.
🦢 Visit to the Momella Lakes – Flamingo Paradise
Drive toward the Momella Lakes, where flamingos gather in the shallows. These alkaline lakes offer excellent birdwatching, including herons, egrets, stilts, and sometimes hippos. This is a great photo opportunity with the reflective lakes and Mount Meru towering above.
🚶 Optional Walking Safari (Add-on)
If desired, you may take a guided walking safari (ranger-accompanied) in designated areas of the park. Walk alongside giraffes, observe animal tracks, and learn about the medicinal plants and birds of the region from your ranger.
🍽️ Picnic Lunch with a View
Enjoy a packed picnic lunch at one of the scenic picnic sites in the park, often near the lakes or waterfalls. Relax in nature while enjoying local flavors prepared for you in advance.
🌿 Afternoon Exploration & Final Game Drive
Explore the Ngurdoto Crater Rim, often called the "mini Ngorongoro," for its beautiful highland scenery and forested slopes. Wildlife like buffalo, warthogs, and monkeys roam near the rim.
Continue the game drive while heading back toward the park gate, soaking in your final views of this hidden gem of Tanzania.
🚙 Return to Arusha City
At around 4:00 PM, begin the drive back to Arusha City. You will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport by 5:30 PM, completing your wonderful 1-day safari experience in Arusha National Park.
